Born in northern Bohemia, Kobos developed an early interest for the Orient and the creative influences of the different cultures. Traveling throughout Europe visiting art galleries and museums until his passion for the arts was clearly evident. He extended his studies into the methods of Japanese and Chinese masters, experimenting with water colours and ink realizing little of his later aspirations as an expressionistic painter. His talent received first recognition during private showings in Florence and Munich in the late 70’s.
In 1987 Kobos moved to Asia where he made the final transition from Acrylics to oils, by which time his true artistic ambition was to further develop towards the form of ‘Abstract Expressionism’ driven by the achievements of painters like Frans Kline, W. de Kooning and Lee Krasner. Yet it was the German painter, Hans Hofmann and teachings that over the years influenced Kobos to evolve, in pursue of his ambition of forming colour into non-objectivity creating a visual and emotional impact within his expressions. The bold and contrasting palette separates his work from the random colourists. His broadly brushed surfaces declare depth and volume with an intensity of colour, establishing abstract unities alongside the departure from conventionalism. Kobos’s works were first publicly exhibited in Indonesia and are held in private collections throughout Asia and Europe to America and Africa.
