SACHA GREENWOOD

I was born in the month of February, in 1978, in a small town called Puttur, situated in-between Coorg and Mangalore (South Karnataka, South India)...I currently reside in Bangalore.

My tryst with photography did not start until very recently. Before that I concentrated mainly in the stone business (I started working when I was 17), with the exception of 2 years where I ran a project department for a company that manufactured and installed electric fences. Both job profiles incidentally involved a lot of travel and that led me to see India extensively, a journey and a luxury I treasure till this very day and probably always will. Each place I’d visit would leave a memory that consisted of thousands of unique pictures I’d click with the oldest camera - MY EYES. It’s rather sad when I think of the thousands of pictures I would have been able to share with the world today had I indulged in this obsession then (photography) through that amazing journey.

Why - photography

I recently decided to take a break from the stone business. Unfortunately or fortunately (fortunately given it led me to realize my passion & obsession for photography, unfortunate given I really loved what I did) the world stone market crashed along with the rest of the markets courtesy the recession so getting back into the trade seemed pointless.During my break whilst idling away, taking life easy, travelling from time to time, a friend happened to see a few pictures I’d taken with an ordinary point and shoot camera, and decided to give me his DSLR (and, by the way, at the time I had no idea what that term meant).I fired away the minute I figured out how to switch it on although I had no clue as to how it really functioned or what it was capable of doing.

On being a photographer, I don’t consider myself one although I am as obsessed and passionate about photography as one can get. More so my obsession to capture and get the representation of a picture as and how I see it - it’s safe to say now that my camera has become my seventh organ of sense and use.

Having said all that, as mentioned earlier I do not strive for the perfect picture, but rather strive to put a picture perfectly together as it appears to me through my eyes and in my mind. In this short while I’ve come to learn that the perfect picture does not exist, as everyone’s perception of what’s perfect and what’s not differs. What I’ve done, doing and will continue to do, is, share with people my perception of things as I see them, everyday and all around me, nothing more nothing less.

I’ve always been different and my views on life and all that I perceive have very seldom been similar to that of the next person. So to sign off in my very own words:

"Don’t mind the darkness, I’ll find a way, it’s just a different form of light, a dark light you could say".
