Born in Mumbai,
Jitish Kallat received his Bachelor’s Degree in Painting from the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1996.
His obsessive use of the self image in his paintings as the main protagonist makes his works autobiographical. The autobiography addresses personal relations as well as the ones he has with his ancestory, time, death and expresses this through a coded symbolism. The use of text, for titles, which are very important to Jitish, infuse the paintings with a sense of humour.
He has shown both locally and abroad, and his work has been included in prestigious group shows.
Kallat lives and works in Mumbai.
