Description
| Love by Kattakuri Ravi is a painting of extraordinary visual richness and cultural depth — a large-format Indian figurative painting that celebrates the many expressions of love through one of India’s most distinctive contemporary visual vocabularies. Completed in 2026 and measuring 42 by 36 inches, this acrylic on canvas is a work of commanding presence and joyful complexity.
A central goddess-like female figure occupies the heart of the composition — a woman of elaborate beauty, her braided hair adorned and her body jewelled, who holds before her an ornate golden birdcage. The birdcage is one of art’s oldest symbols of the paradox of love: it represents both protection and captivity, freedom offered and freedom withheld. In Ravi K’s hands this symbol becomes exuberant rather than melancholy — the cage is golden, the parrots that fly around it are vivid and free, and the woman who holds it radiates joy rather than possession. Around this central figure, Ravi K builds a world of extraordinary abundance. Parrots fly; lotus flowers bloom; the silhouette of the Taj Mahal — India’s greatest monument to love — appears in the upper right, alongside Mughal domes, colourful city rooftops, and the faces of additional female figures who populate the edges of the composition like a chorus. The effect is of a painting that contains multitudes — a celebration of love not as a single feeling but as an entire world. The colour palette is an explosion of warm golds, pinks, coral and amber — colours of Indian festivity, of the warmth of candlelight, of the richness of traditional wedding ceremony. Ravi K builds his surfaces through thousands of tiny, precisely placed marks that together create an effect of extraordinary richness, drawing on the tradition of Indian miniature painting while operating at a scale and with an ambition that is entirely contemporary. Love is among the most immediately appealing works in Ravi K’s new series and would be a centre piece acquisition for any collection of Indian contemporary art. It ships from Visions Art, Mumbai, with a Certificate of Authenticity. Artwork Details: 🔗 More works by Ravi K: https://www.visionsarts.com/artists/ravi-k/ |
