Tiger and Sweety is an original acrylic painting on canvas by Kattakuri Ravi, completed in 2026. The canvas measures 42 × 36 inches. The painting depicts a seated woman holding a tiger horizontally across her lap. Both figures face forward toward the viewer.

The background is a flat, unmodulated orange — a notable departure from the heavily patterned backgrounds in other works in this series. The woman has elaborately braided hair with small coloured ornaments. She sits on a small stool with a floral-patterned seat. The tiger shows orange and black markings against the matching orange ground.

Description

1. Artwork Overview

Tiger and Sweety is an original acrylic painting on canvas by Kattakuri Ravi, dated 2026. The work measures 42 × 36 inches. The artist provides the title.

2. Composition and Visual Elements

The composition is simpler than many others in this series. Two figures occupy the foreground — a seated woman and a tiger — with a flat orange ground behind them and no architectural or landscape elements in the background.

The woman has long braided hair, with small ornaments in green, red and blue. She wears a short garment with layered decorative patterning at the hem and sits on a low stool, the seat of which carries a small floral pattern. She holds the tiger across her lap with both arms. Her posture is upright and her gaze meets the viewer directly.

The tiger rests in a horizontal position with its head to the right, facing the viewer. Its markings are black on orange. The tiger’s tail extends down and to the left side of the canvas.

3. Colour, Surface and Technique

A flat, solid orange fills the background without gradation. The woman’s skin tone is a muted blue green. Her garment uses muted pinks, greens and multicoloured decorative detail. Notably, the orange of the background and the orange base colour of the tiger create a near-camouflage effect in the lower portion of the painting. The tiger’s black stripes provide the primary contrast against this ground.

Throughout, the painting uses Ravi’s characteristic flat, outlined forms.

4. Themes and Possible Interpretations

The composition’s simplicity — flat ground, two central figures, minimal background — places greater visual emphasis on the relationship between the woman and the tiger than on any surrounding context. The relaxed manner in which the woman holds the animal may suggest familiarity or comfort.
